For adults, BMI values in the range of 18.5-24.9 kg / m2 are considered normal. Values above 25 kg / m2 indicate excess body mass and a higher risk of non-communicable diseases.
Studies
of elderly people suggest that BMI values below 23 kg / m2 and above 33 kg / m2 are associated with a higher risk of death. On the other hand, BMI values within this range are associated with lower mortality.
